Louis XV Style Commode with Marble Top, France, early 20th century.
Walnut and fruitwood veneers with floral marquetry. Sharped marble top and gilt-bronze mounts and hardware.
A refined Louis XV style commode with an elegant serpentine façade, richly decorated with parquetry and floral marquetry panels, ornate gilt-bronze mounts, and crowned by its original shaped marble top. The three large drawers offer generous storage, while the shaped marble adds both decorative and functional presence.
The façade and sides are veneered with fine geometric parquetry and delicate floral inlays in contrasting woods. Gilt-bronze escutcheons, handles, and corner mounts accentuate the refined silhouette, and the cabriole legs terminate in finely cast sabots. The shaped marble top presents a lively, multicolored surface of beige, grey, and warm red veining that harmonizes with the wood below.
Antique condition with very minor surface wear, expected light marks to veneer and marble. Bronze mounts with natural patina consistent with age.
