Divine Light
Artist Emmett Graham. Inspired by Dia De Los Muertos. It is said , people die three deaths. The first death is the body. The second is the burial. The third death occurs when no one is left to remember us. The celebration of Día De Los Muertos is an integration between the (Olmec, Mayan, Aztec,) and christian traditions. The holiday is celebrated privately and publicly. This cultural celebration is a perfect example that demonstrates dualism, life and death, as well as the past and present. Día De Los Muertos is a joyful reunion of those who have passed. In the painting the light from above represents warmth, faith, and belief. The candles and flowers help those who have passed, find their way back to their loved ones. The skull and cross represents the integration of christian and pre-Columbian cultural traditions.
