Tsukuda Sumiyoshi no Yashiro

Tsukuda Sumiyoshi no yashiro  ( Sumiyoshi Shrine on Tsukuda Island ) is the original title of this superb ten colour woodblock print on paper, by the Japanese master,  Utagawa Hiroshige II ( Shigenobu), (Japan 1797-1858).

This plate is from the  Edo Meisho  series  (“Famous Places in Edo ), dated  1853

Excellent condition, with usual aging signs (the missing lower left corner, some yellowings and abrsions of the paper). Despite of this imperceptible defects, this specimen is completely readable and intact. Unframed

Collect an amazing  Japanese landscape  animated by female characters and realized by one of the most popular master of  ukiyo-e   art, Utagawa Hiroshige II,  that inherited the name of “ Hiroshige”  after the death of his master(1858). The artworks by Hiroshige II resembles to those of his master, Utagawa Hiroshige, that scholars have often confused them. Today Hiroshige II is a synonymous of Japanese art all around the world!
