The Deposition is an original old master painting realized in the first decades of the XVII Century by one of the artists of Antoon Van Dyck atelier

Original oil on canvas.

Mint conditions.

Dramatic and suggestive oil painting realized during the first half of the Seventeenth century in the Flemish area, in the school of Antoon Van Dyck. This extremely suggestive work is characterized by a use of colors that gives the composition a great pathos and a sense of great drama. The figure of Christ is taken off the cross by three figures; we can find the virgin on the left side who looks towards the sky, the figure of St. John on the right in profile and the figure of Mary Magdalene (with the long blond hair and the red cloak that distinguish her) in the central part of the composition.

The work has been realized by one of artists of the school of Antoon van Dyck (Antwerp, 1599 - London,1641) a great Flemish painter, mainly a portrait painter, who became the first court painter in England after a long stay in Italy. It is universally known for the portraits of the Genoese nobility and of Charles I of England, members of his family and his court. With his method of painting of relaxed elegance, he influenced English portraitists, such as Peter Lely, for the following years. In addition to the portraits, for which he was highly appreciated, he also dealt with biblical and mythological subjects, introducing some remarkable pictorial innovations. He was a pupil and friend of the painter Pieter Paul Rubens, of whom he assimilated the technique and the style.
