Plate 23 –  From  Liber Veritatis

Aquatint on Copper, Imag. Dim: cm 33x47.5, Dim: cm 21x27, 

Beautiful Artist’s Proof, representing a shepherd with his herd pastouring at the shore of a river, in a site of an antique temple. Aquatint by  Ludovico Caracciolo (engraver),  is inspired by the production of the French painter  Claude Lorrain  ( draftsman).  Signed and Numbered on plate lower “ Claudio di Lorena inv., L. Caracciolo F.”.  From the collection  “Liber Veritatis”,  Rome, F. Bourliè, 1815.

Ludovico Caracciolo (Rome, 1761-1841)

Roman landscapist and engraver, specialied in architectural drawings and panoramas of the Eternal City, Caracciolo loved travelling and drawing the most beautiful scenes he met along the way. He became a protégé of Elizabeth Foster , the second wife of the fifth Duke of Devonshire , William Cavendish and had the possibility to publish a set of prints inspired by Claude Lorrain‘s works, collected in Liber Veritatis , Rome, Francesco Bourlié, 1815 (now in the British Museum collection).

Aquatinta su rame, Imag. Dim: cm 33x47.5, Dim: cm 21x27, 

Bella Prova d'artista che mostra un pastore con la sua mandria al pascolo alle sponde di un fiume, nel sito di un tempio antico. Aquatinta firmata e Numerata su lastra margine inferiore “ Claudio di Lorena inv., L. Caracciolo F.”. Dalla collezione “Liber Veritatis”, Roma, F. Bourliè, 1815. In Ottimo stato.

Ludovico Caracciolo (Rome, 1761-1841)

Paesaggista e incisore romano, specializzato in panorami e viste architettoniche della Città eterna, amava viaggiare e disegnare le scene più belle che incontrava lungo la strada. Divenne il protetto di Elizabeth Foster , seconda moglie del quinto duca di Devonshire , William Cavendish e così ebbe la possibilità di pubblicare la raccolta di stampe inspirate alla produzione di C.G Lorenese‘s work in Liber Veritatis , Rome, Francesco Bourlié, 1815 (ora conservate al British Museum ).
