Liber Veritatis - Plate 177 is a beautiful black and white etching and aquatint on paper realized by the Italian artist Ludovico Caracciolo , after Claudio di Lorena .
This old master's original print is a beautiful artist proof , the 177th plate from the series Liber Veritatis , published in Rome in 1815 by Francesco Bourlié. Representing a wonderful landscape with ruins of an ancient temple, shepherds listening to the music of a piper, and a grazing herd, this aquatint by Ludovico Caracciolo (engraver) was inspired by the production of the French painter Claude Lorrain ( draftsman) . Signed and numbered at the bottom of the plate “ Claudio di Lorena inv., L. Caracciolo F .”.
In very good conditions, with usual slightly brown paper on the margins. Including passepartout.

Ludovico Caracciolo (Rome, 1761-1841)
Roman landscapist and engraver, specialized in architectural drawings and panoramas of the Eternal City, Caracciolo loved travelling and drawing the most beautiful scenes he saw along the way. He became a protégé of Elizabeth Foster , the second wife of the fifth Duke of Devonshire , William Cavendish, and had the opportunity to publish a set of prints inspired by Claude Lorrain‘s works, collected in the Liber Veritatis , Rome, Francesco Bourlié, 1815 (now in the collection of the British Museum).
