This painting has a pretty funny story.
Back in Summer 2020, Laurelin from the intra_materia_art_collective started to paint a 100 X 100 cm canvas. But a couple of days later, he had to leave for a week, while the painting was unfinished.
As I told him that the colors were still fresh on the canvas and that it would be a waste to lose it all, I proposed him to finish the painting.
He agreed, but at his return, he didn’t like what I came up with at all. Me neither actually…
One year later (2021), trying to figure out what to do with this failed painting, I finally decided to cut it off to isolate the most interesting part of it, making it a smaller but better painting, which we signed and dated then.
Still, we weren’t satisfied with it.
A few month later (2022), as I posted a lot about my pastel series Pandemonium, it inspired me to finish this failed painting the way I would have done it 22 years back, with my pastel.
This proved to be the right move… Now, we are totally satisfied with the result, and we finally considere this painting finished and pretty nice.
To finally turn this initial failure painting into a decent piece of art is a reminder that, as long as we can try again, there’s still a full potential for success.
It also showed me that sometimes, the solution lies way back in the past…
The title which means « Great Jupiter » comes from the Opera « Polifemo » by the marvelous Nicola Antonio Porpora.
