Autograph Letter Signed by M.Jacob to the Countess A.L.Pecci-Blunt . Saint-Beno?t-sur-Loire, 8th July 1936. One page two-sided (27 x 21 cm). In French . Including Envelope (11.5 x14.4) and a photo (8.8 x 14.4 cm) of Iché’s medal, printed by Recis Lespun Studio, as the postmark shows in the back side. Excellent condition .

Moving Letter regarding Jacob’s hermitage in Saint-Beno?t-sur-Loire.  In his last moments of freedom , he definitively withdraws in Madame Persillard’s house, for eight years until the Gestapo’s arrest. The photo attached, shows a Réré Iché’s silver medal, coined in 1935 in the Max Jacob’s honours. In the recto side there is the Max Jacob’s profile surrounded by the Latin font written: “Max Jacob et sans Laurier”, (Max Jacob without Laurel), the artist’s name “René Iché” et the coinage year “1935”. In the verso side there are all symbols connected with Jacob’s life and passions.

Moving Letter regarding Jacob’s hermitage in Saint-Beno?t-sur-Loire . The Postal service was his only contact with the rest of the world. He was in Saint-Beno?t-sur-Loire when the Countess looked for him to visit him. He named his “admirable ” friend, Bernard Fay, as his protector .

The envelope has the words “ faire suivre” , a French idioms to say: “ to address to the right address ”. The photo attached , shows a Réré Iché’s silver medal, coined in 1935 in the Max Jacob’s honours. In the recto side there is the Max Jacob’s profile surrounded by the Latin font written: “ Max Jacob et sans Laurier ”, ( Max Jacob without Laurel ), the artist’s name “René Iché” et the coinage year “ 1935” . In the verso side there are all symbols connected with Jacob’s life and passions. A Calvary remembers his convertion. Montmartre, the top hat and the stick rested on the pile of books (whom Jacob’s works titles are reported in details on the spine) remembers his artistic merits and his Bohemian life with Picasso and the surrealists .

The background: In 1936, the same year of this letter, Max Jacob expose his gouaches at the Christian Dior’s Gallery in his last moments of freedom. Infact he definitively withdraw in Saint-Beno?t-sur-Loire, in Madame Persillard’s house, for eight years until the Gestapo’s arrest.
