Sleeping Beauty in the Urban Guerrilla

Sleeping Beauty in the Urban Guerrilla is one of the best works realized by Alberto Sordi in 2011.

The artist reworks scenes from various riots. The background is set on a montage of his photographs, taken in downtown Montreal, on which he applied various words and phrases. In the foreground, a dozing girl with a chip on her forehead, a parody of the Illuminati's Third Eye, wants to ignore the total chaos that surrounds her, which she disdains. A young man is throwing a fire extinguisher towards Sleeping Beauty to wake her from her lack of interest but seems to want only to hit the police, in riot gear, behind the woman. As superheroes for sale, most cops and mobsters are marked with barcodes. Everything happens under a sky strewn with police helicopters, who intervened to quell the revolt.
