An interesting Lithograph of the French old master, Auguste Raffet, describes the march of French Artillery during the Siège of Rome (3 rd  June-2 nd  July 1849). The artist assisted and became the illustrator of the Italian campaigns. The artwork is depicted skillfully through confident and strong strokes in a well-balanced composition with perfect hatching.

Denis Auguste Marie Raffet (1804 – 1860) was a French old master who specialized in lithograph, inspired by his patriotism: he was the official illustrator of the Napoleonic campaigns, from Egypt to Waterloo.

Historical background:

The general Oudinet who was sent by Louis Napoleon, the president of the Second French Republic, tried to assault Rome for the second time, France won. The French Army marched and got in Rome, established a temporary military government.
