Self-portrait  is a superb original pencil drawing by the Russian artist  Eugène Berman  (1899-1972),  monogrammed and dated  (' 69 ) in pencil on the lower margin at the center.

One of his last self-portraits affected by a light nostalgic vein: he portrayed himself in an old age, bald, and wearing thick glasses. Behind his shoulders some vases with plants. A wise hatching and a skilled hand demonstrate the full mastery of the drawing art.

A beautiful contemporary artwork, in excellent conditions except for a light yellowing of the paper at the edges. A white cardboard passepartout is included (cm 35 x 50).

Eugène Berman  (St. Petersburg, 1899 – Rome, 1972) was a Russian painter and theater and opera scenographer. His work earned the name of "Neo-Romantic" for the melancholy and the introspective features. Berman might have taken inspiration from Pablo Picasso's artworks, especially from the Blue Period paintings.
