Portrait  is an original drawing in mixed media and pastel on cardboard, realized by  Gabriele Galantara  in 1905 ca.

It depicts the popular italian actor Ettore Petrolini.

The state of preservation of the artwork is very good.

The artworks represent a portrait of a smiling man, created with strong and confident strokes, skilfully expressed in Expressionistic scratches. Gabriele Galantara(1867-1937), journalist and one of the major Italian caricaturists and satirical designers. The Donkey was a  political satire magazine  in 1892, the year of the first Giolitti ministry and the establishment of the Italian Socialist Party, The magazine was conceived by Guido Podrecca,and by Gabriele Galantara,  brilliant cartoonist and puppeteer , also a socialist. The two assumed the pseudonyms of "Goliardo" (Podrecca) and "Rata Langa" (Galantara), and with these nicknames, they signed the issues of the weekly.
