François Morellet  is considered one of the precursors of minimalism in Europe and one of the greatest masters of geometric abstraction. In the 1950s, influenced by the neoplasticism of Mondrian and Van Doesburg, he moved towards a formal and chromatic reduction, reaching a simple and geometric language. After the trip to Brazil and Spain, Morellet's artistic style definitively approached abstraction and geometrism. Between 1960 and 1970 the artist began to create the so-called "frames", parallel lines positioned in a precise order and to use neon as a new means of expression. In 1972 he participated in the Venice Biennale and in many retrospectives throughout Europe. Later he created a group of artists, called GRAV (Groppe de Ricerche d’Art Visuelle), with the aim of creating an experimental art.
