On the back of the work, several hand-written inscriptions realized with blue pencil and with the same writing. Among the inscriptions, the name of "David Belasco" is present in the center, it is written with bigger letters compared to the other inscriptions. The presence of this iscription and the similarity of this character with the real David Belasco can help to consider this illustration a dedication to the American famous star. David Belasco (1853 – 1931) was an American producer, impresario and playwriter. He was also the first writer to adapt Madame Butterfly for the stage, and he launched the theatrical career of many actors.
The illustration is realistic but satiric: a man (David Belasco) well-dressed is presented while he is throwing golden coins. On the lower margin, several beautiful female figures are watching him. The style is art-déco and the date of the illustration can be concide with 1931, that is the year of the death of Belasco and the whole work can be considere as an hommage to the American star.
