Composition

Composition is an exceptional engraving and etching made by Marchel Stobbaerts , in excellent conditions of preservation. The important Belgian artist was an engraver, painter and illustrator. His style was influenced by the Cubist-Futurist avantgarde, of which he is an eminent exponent in the 1920s and 1930s.

The artwork is a beautiful engraving, in which, following the concomitant artistic avantgarde, the artist describes synthetically a place near the sea and contemporaneously a prison with convicts and two prison officers. Probably this is an illustration relating to a literary text.

This is a beautiful example of art of the early XX century, particularly interesting for the synthetic arrangement of the figures.
