Cocteau's Autograph Letter

L.A.S. Autograph Letter Signed by the French writer Jean Cocteau , addressed to the Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt.

New York, 31 December 1948.  One page, double-sided. In 8°. In French. On headed paper  "Hotel St. Regis New York"  . Including the envelope, cm 11 x 14.5, with two postmarks and a stamp. Perfect conditions, letter with the usual medial fold of the paper and a yellowing of the paper on the verso.

This is a greeting and apologise letter.

Extremely sorry to be in New York and being extremely busy, inside the " cyclone" of writing he will not be able to greet the Countess Pecci-Blunt. He concludes: " from heart to heart/ Jean".

The background:

In the same year of this letter Jean Cocteau was in America for the presentation of his book  L'Aigle à deux têtes, with an  unpredictable  public. The reactions  were enthuasiasitic: " New York is an extraordinary city" , he writes to his friend and confidant Jeannot M. in those days and awaits him with days full of official meetings.
