First edition of this popular essay by the Neoclassical author Francesco Milizia, who inspired Giacomo Leopardi's Storia dell'Astronomia. Milizia was an histrian of art and architecture, but his interests cover a wide range of topics, including science and astronomy. The book is a synthesis of the popular Histories of the french astronomer Jean Sylvain Bailly. Cover with plates XX century on marbelized cardboard; spine on leather, probably XIX century, with golden letters and decorations. Inside very good conditions, except a stain on bottom right of pages.
