Porque esconderlos? (Why hide them?) is a black and White aquatint, drypoint, and etching printed in blue-black ink on laid paper from Caprichos realized after Francisco Goya in 1881-1886.

6th Edition.

Titled on the lower

Very good impression.

Madrid: Calcografia Real, 1881-1886

The first edition of Capricci was published on 6 February 1799 and put on sale the same day in a liquor and perfume shop on Calle DesengaÏo, in Madrid. The same day, in the Diario de Madrid, Goya became concerned and tried to reiterate that the Capricci were a work born from his imagination and without real references. However, worried about the public reaction and the inquisition, he decided after only 27 copies were sold to withdraw the edition from the market and so in 1803 he donated the remaining copies of the Caprices and the related plates to the King in exchange for a pension for his son. The work was subsequently reprinted by the Calcografa Nacional of Madrid in several editions from 1855 to 1937 after the first in 1799.
