Sandra Vasquez De La Horra was born in Viña del Mar in Chile in 1967. She studied visual communication at the University for Design in Viña del Mar. From 1995 to 1997 she attended the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf under the guidance of Rosemarie Trockel and Jannis Kounellis . In his works the graphite of the drawings is crystallized by beeswax. The artist's dream world merges with myths and legends that range between America and Africa, continuing the surrealist tradition present in much Latin American art. His drawings are influenced by films, fairy tales, books on botany and zoology. His images draw inspiration not only from the personal sphere but also from a type of universal, broader experience, thus resulting ecstatic, traumatic and surreal. They often include words written in Spanish, English, German, or a mix of the three languages. The way in which the artist combines text and images approaches the aesthetics of visual poetry. His works can be found in the collections of major museums such as the Center Pompidou in Paris or the MOMA in New York.
