Signed on plate on lower right margin "Piranesi F."
Original title is etched on the lower right margin: " Veduta del Ponte Lugano su l'Anione nella via Tiburtina risarcito ne' tempi bassi A Sepolcro della famiglia Plauzia" (The Ponte Lucano, with the Tomb of the Plautii)
According to Hind, this is the plate number 68 and this is the first state on IV. Address and price on the lower left margin " Si vende presso l'Autore a paoli due e mezzo".
This beautiful view with a cinematographic cut shot is amazing for the intensity of the blacks and the sharpness of the line. In excellent conditions, except for some light foxing on the margins.

Views of Rome drawn and etched by Giambattista Piranesi, Venetian architect is a wonderful series executed over the course of Piranesi's succesful career, from the second half of 1740s until his death, printed and sold as individual sheets or in collections that gradually increased as his output progressed, and occasionally included other series of prints as well.

Views of Rome drawn and etched by Giambattista Piranesi, Venetian architect is a wonderful series executed over the course of Piranesi's successful career, from the second half of 1740s until his death, printed and sold as individual sheets or in collections that gradually increased as his output progressed, and occasionally included other series of prints as well. Posthumous edition with the same title consists of 135 prints engraved in 1778 and 2 title pages. The additions consisted of the Pianta di Roma e del Campo Marzio and two plates by his son, Francesco Piranesi.
