Portrait of a Lady

Portrait of a Lady is a beautiful etching on paper, realized by the English artist  Thomas Cheesman (1760 - 1834). 

Signed on plate on the right corner, the watercolor etching is d'après Sir W. Beechy .

The work is glued on cardboard. Total dimensions: 38 x 32 cm.

The artist wants to define a well-balanced composition, through preciseness and congruous colors.

 Thomas Cheesman (1760 - 1834) was a English  engraver (chiefly in stipple), draughtsman. Pupil of Bartolozzi, Cheesman’s engravings were made after religious, literary and sentimental subjects by contemporary artists. He is thought to have died shortly after his last work was exhibited at the Society of British Artists, in 1834.
