Jean Frélaut (17 July 1879, Grenoble - 23 December 1954, Vannes) was a French painter and engraver. Author of over 1,500 plates, he received the French engraving prize at the Venice Biennale (1934). One of his first etchings is from L'Estampe nouvelle (Le Laboureur, 1906). Jean Bersier described it in 1948: "From the day MacLanghlan introduced him to the profession of engraver, he dedicated himself, with tenacious and caring will, to engrave in copper the intense love he felt for nature and for the land of his ancestral territory. The Morbihan, rough and taut, lends itself beautifully to Frélaut’s descriptions". The engraved work of Jean Frélaut is present in the collections of the Musée de la Cohue in Vannes and in that of the Breton Departmental Museum in (Quimper), which also preserves some of his drawings.
