Jean-Baptiste Auguste Leloir, born in Paris on July 1, 1809, and died in the 17th arrondissement of Paris on March 8, 18921, is a French painter. Crowned with a 3rd Grand Prix of Rome in 1835, Auguste Leloir began exhibiting at the Salon the same year and was rewarded there twice, obtaining a third-class medal at the Salon in 1839, then a second-class medal at the Salon in 1841 for his painting depicting Homer, purchased by the State and deposited in the Louvre Museum. He has produced a work of history painter, author of paintings on religious and mythological subjects. he also practices the art of portraiture.
