The book has been illustrated by Alberto Savinio (Athens, 25th August 1891 - Rome, 1952). Alberto Savinio (Athens, 25th August 1891 - Rome, 1952), with the name of Andrea de Chirico was an Italian writer, painter, playwright and composer; he was the brother of Giorgio de Chirico, who was born in Volos in 1888. He chose to be called Alberto Savinio during his first years of living in Paris, in 1910. His art is characterized by some particular trends: the taste for the fantastic , of the unknown and of man-animal interpenetration; the unmasking of self-deceptions and bourgeois certainties; the tendency to parody (especially of mythological subjects), irony and quotationism. These last components differentiate it decisively from the more radical shades of the early twentieth century avant-garde. For example, he opposed the futurist creed of the destruction of museums, or the surrealist fashion of automatic writing. Important in his culture was the reference to classical Greece, and for this reason he is often defined as a "Mediterranean surrealist" (unlike the "Nordic" surrealist Landolfi).
