Letter from Ardengo Soffici to Libero De Libero
A Autograph Letter Signed by Ardengo Soffici (1879-1964), accompanies his b/w photographic portrait in a beautiful composition, in perfect condition, mounted under passepartout, plexiglass, and gilded frame (cm 40.5 x 2 x 54.5).
This manuscript is addressed to Libero de Libero. Dated: Poggio a Ciano, June 24th 1937. One page, double sided. In Italian. In 16°. cm 34 x 21. Including the original envelope. Perfect conditions. Autograph Letter of greetings addressed to the person responible of the Cometa Gallery in Rome.
The Italian painter and poet, Ardengo Soffici shared with his Florentine friends, Libero de Libero (1903 – 1981), his Parisian experience, showing Cézanne's work, the cubists, Apollinaire, Rimbaud. Regarding politics, Ardengo Soffici adhered to fascism. In 1925, he signed the Manifesto degli intellettuali fascisti, and received in 1932 the Mussolini award for painting. In 1937, he take his distance from Mussolini but will remain faithfull to the regime until his fall. In 1937, Soffici refuses the invitation of Libero De Libero, to whom the countess Anna Laetitia Pecci Blunt had entrusted the direction of the Teatro della Galleria La Cometa, to participate to a collective exhibition. With these words Ardengo Soffici answered: “In reply to you, have to answer you in a not affirmative way: but I have lost since much time taken the resolution to abstain (...) from any exhibition or collective artistic manifestation. What I feel impossible is to adhere to his new invitation."
