Michael Tsegaye (b. 1975) graduated in 2002 from the Addis Ababa Fine Arts School, where he specialised in painting. But soon he gave up painting after he developed to a severe allergy to the oil paint. He subsequently found his real passion in photography and has made of it not only a profession but a way of expressing a very particular voice.
During this time he took part in exhibitions at the Goethe-Institute of Addis, as well as young artist exhibitions at the National Museum of Addis.

He was the winner of the first place award of European Union- African Union photography competition in 2011 as a representative of the Eastern Africa. Besides his professional work, Michael is also a well-known artist who focuses on social documentary and art photography. He has exhibited in various galleries in New York, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Morocco, Canada, Amsterdam, Mali, Miami, and São Paulo. His work can be found in a number of international magazines and various catalogues including Snap Judgments: New Directions in African Photography, edited by Okwui Enwezor and published by the International Centre for Photography in New York City in 2007.

Tsegaye is participating at the Maxxi group show Road to Justice opening on June 22nd, 2018.
