For the Sake of a Single Verse  is a magic original portfolio, illustrated with 24 original color and b/w lithographs by the American master  Ben Shahn  (1898-1969). All the illustrations are signed on stone and lettered in gilt by the author, the frontispiece is signed and numbered by the author in pencil. With loose sheets.

Our specimen is the number 679 on an edition of 750 copies on  Velin d'Arches  paper (the total edition counts 950 copies). With the original editorial slipcover, with the original box set in full illustrated canvas. Spine of the slipcase lettered in brown ink.

In-folio (cm 58 x 46), with 112 sheets. In English.

Inside nearly perfect conditions, with very fresh and bright printing of both text and illustrations. The only little defect is on the original box set with some damages on the angles and some minor stains.

Rainer Maria Rilke (Prague, 1875 - Les Planches, 1926) was an Austrian writer, poet and playwright of Bohemian origins, considered one of the most important German-speaking poets of the 20th century. Famous for his Duino Elegies , the Sonnets a Orfeo and the Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge .

Ben Shahn  (Kovno, 1898 - New York, 1969) was an American painter, photographer and designer of Lithuanian origins, and member of the Social realist movement.  His expressive figurative paintings were absolutely tied to his pursuit of social justice and lifelong activism.
