The French-Prussian War  is an original modern artwork realized by the French painter  Raoul-Joseph Arus  in the last decades of the   XIX Century.

Original Oil painting on Canvas.

Hand-signed by the artist on the lower left corner:  Raoul Arus .

This magnificent oil paintig includes a modern frame with gilded edges.

Both the canvas and the frame are in very good conditions.

Beautiful historical oil painting depicting a battle scene. The canvas is characterized by a great movement. The scene, iindeed, takes place in the middle of an outdoor battle. In the foreground we see wooden wagons pulled by white horses and, on the background, a rural landscape characterized by green fields and a very clear blue sky. The painting, indeed, can be divided into two horizontal planes: the upper part is completely empty while the lower part is characterized by the movement and heat of the battle.

The scene narrates an extremely important event in European history: the war between France and Prussia between 1870 and 1871. The Franco-Prussian War was the most important conflict fought in Europe between the Napoleonic Era wars and the First World War; the war ended with the complete victory of Prussia and its allies. The most important and decisive battle was fought in Sedan with the victory of Prussia.

This grandiose military representation was realized by Jean Marie Joseph Arus , (best-known as Raoul Arus), (Nîmes, 1846 - Paris, 1921). He was a French painter and artist. To him we owe mainly historical and military scenes and paintings such as "The artillery position" and "The Nnights stadium". He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor on 11 October 1906.
