Beautiful oil on canvas realized by the Italian School in the first half of the XIX century. The work represents the figure of Elizabeth while giving charity to poors and children. We do not see the face and the expression of the figure because she is looking downwards< we can see the expression of the girl in the foreground that is watching us though. The choice of the color for this composition is very particular: lively and bright.

Elizabeth of Hungary was the "Princess of Poverty"; daughter of Andrea, king of Hungary and Gertrude, noblewoman of Merano, still a young girl, she was promised as wife to Ludovico, heir of the sovereign of Thuringia. A bride at fourteen, a mother of fifteen, she was widowed at 20. She gave everything to the poor and retired to Marburg in Germany in a hospital she founded, embracing poverty and working to care for the sick and the poor until the last exhaled breath at the age of twenty-five.
