The artwork represents two children playing the piano.
Adolphe Lalauze (1838 – 1906) was an important French etcher, who made illustrations for many books. He studied at the Toulouse École des Beaux-Arts and then he moved to Paris. He held his first exhibition at the Salon in 1872. He became famous for the series Le Petit Monde (The Small World), depicting childhood scenes using his children as models. He was a member of the Société des Artistes Français.
