Paris is an original artwork realized in the end of the XIX century by Kostantin Alekseevič Korovin.

Oil painting on cardboard. Hand-signed and titled on the lower left corner "Kostantin Korovin, Paris".

Very good conditions.

Impressionistic and intense composition representing a urban view on Paris. Full of contrasts between lights and shadows, this work is impressive for the freshness of the colors and for the composition. The most interesting element is surely the dark sky, where the light of the moon illuminates the clouds and the ground. The ground is characterized also by a mixture of orange and yellow strokes that create a sense of great movement, resembling the Impressionist style.

This work was realized by the Russian painter and set designer Konstantin Alekseevič Korovin (Moscow, 1861 - Paris, 1939). He attended the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, where he was a pupil of Vasilij Dmitrievič Polenov and of Aleksej Kondrat'evič Savrasov. The artistic theories of Korovin concerning chromatic and emotional elements of the folklore were perfected by his participation in the movement of the World of Art (Mir Iskusstva) and by his stays in Spain and France. The style and pictorial taste of Korovin were well-exemplified in the works presented both at the Exhibition of Nizhny Novgorod in 1896 and at the Paris Exhibition in 1900. As a set designer, Korovin distinguished himself in collaborations with the Mamontov Theater and the Bolshoi in Moscow, with the Imperial Theater in St. Petersburg and in Paris with Sergei Pavlovich Djagilev's Russian Ballets. His sets were characterized by the 'barbaric' style and by the 'djagilevian' style. A good part of his works is preserved and exhibited at the Mamontov Gallery and at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
