Guan Zi Zai: Chinese Artistic Calligraphy

Guan Zi Zai  is a beautiful artistic calligraphy in China ink on Xuan paper realized by the Chinese artist  Sheng Zuoshan  in March 1920.

The  signature  of the artist appears on the lower left in black ink.

This is a unique piece, showing the handwriting " Guan Zi Zai ", the name of the Buddhist bodhisattva and a phrase meaning " know yourself to feel free ".

Xuan paper  is very ancient and was used in China for writing and painting. It is famous for the softness and fineness of its texture, ideal for rendering at its best the artistic expression, be it calligraphy or painting, of Chinese artists.The artwork is framed by the  Zhuangbiao , a particular framing method for paintings and calligraphy on Xuan or rice paper, with an amber homogeneous fabric, applied on paper.
