Ancient Foo Dog - China Late 19th Century

Big Guanyin - Qing Dynasty China is an original artwork realized in China in the second half of the XIX century.

Wood root.

Provenance: Italian Family Private Collection, gift by a Hong Kong art collector during the 1970s.

Good conditions.

Beautiful sculpture: it is realized with the root of the wood at the bottom and, above, there is the carved bust of Guanyin Deity. The base is separated from the figure. The Guanyin is a Chinese Buddhist divinity, represented in the form of a goddess. The Chinese name, which literally means "the one who looks at the sound (of the cries of the world)", is a translation of the Sanskrit name of the divinity Avalokiteśvara.
