Provenance : Italian Family Private Collection, gift by a Hong Kong art collector during the 1970s.

Beautiful sculpture realized with the root of the wood at the bottom and, above, there is the carved bust of the Guanyin Deity. The base is separated from the figure. The Guanyin is a Chinese Buddhist divinity, represented in the form of a goddess. The Chinese name, which literally means "the one who looks at the sound (of the cries of the world)", is a translation of the Sanskrit name of the divinity  Avalokitesvara .
