Natural Gray 05

Natural Gray 05  is a hypnotic abstract painting realized by the contemporary artist  Li Lei  in 2007.

This vertical original artwork represents an abstract composition in different shades of gray. The brushwork is surprising: the artwork shows large discontinuous strokes in the background, and black spurts rising from the bottom trying to reach the higher part of the canvas, like the jet of an oilfield. Some yellow stains can be espied here and there behind the black strokes.

What really makes this artist differ from any other is the naturalness with which  Li Lei  approaches the empty canvas, filling it by means of different and unusual tools. The artist conceived a brand-new creative process for works of art. For this reason, he is considered one of the major contemporary Chinese artists.
