The photo is an edition of 5 unique specimens and is part of the series  Gloomy Sunday  realized by the artist in the 2000s.

The woman in the photograph, as the title of the artwork suggests, represents the tragic heroine from the world of Literature  Emma Bovary . The story is taken from the original novel written by the French bohemian author Gustave Flaubert published on "La Revue de Paris" in 1854. It ends with the tragic death of the main character, Emma, who commits suicide swallowing arsenic.

The woman, as the title of the artwork suggests, represents the tragic heroine from the world of Literature Emma Bovary . The story is taken from the original novel written by the French bohemian author Gustave Flaubert published on "La Revue de Paris" in 1854. The novel is considered one of the most important novels of French Literature of the XIX century. It ends with the tragic death of the main character, Emma, who commits suicide swallowing arsenic.
