Aspect Comique
Aspect C omique is a wonderful mixed media (watercolor and China ink) on paper, realized in 1948 by Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze Wols .
Hand-signed in black China ink in capital letters on the lower right margin. The wire rod and ivory-colored paper presents the watermark " Royal " and a royal coat of arms. Title and date in pencil overleaf.
In very good conditions, except for some abrasions (a big one on the lower right margin also visible on the back, and three minor abrasions visible only on the back) and five marks of tape on the corners and in the middle of the higher margin on the back. A yellow stripe is visible on the higher margin. Cream-colored cardboard passepartout included: 31.5 x 24 cm.

Wols is the pseudonym of Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze (Berlin, 1913 – Paris, 1951), a German painter and photographer active in France. Though broadly unrecognized in his lifetime, he is considered a pioneer of lyrical abstraction and one of the most influential artists of the Tachisme movement. He is the author of a book on art theory titled Aphorismes de Wols .
