Claes Thure Oldenburg (Stockholm, January 28, 1929)
The Swedish American-born artist and sculptor Claes Oldenburg belongs to the pop art movement. His artistic research is focused on consumption in contemporary American society especially with regard to the relationship with food. He makes large-size sculptures in painted plaster depicting ice creams, hot dogs and whatever else the overgrown American population consumes in the sixties until today. These reproductions were for sale in a shop owned by the artist, opened in 1961, which he himself called The Store.
